Two Goliad students are winners in this year’s Texas Rural Education Association 2025 Student Art Contest.

Daniela DeLeon, a GHS student, won third place in the 9-12th grade division. Brayden Franke, a GMS student, won second in the 6-8th grade division.

“TREA is incredibly proud of every student who participated and poured their hard work into their submissions,” according a news release.

The theme for this year’s contest was “Rural Roots, Global impact.”

Art Teacher at Goliad High and Middle schools Sara Aleman said, “The theme was a difficult concept for most people to illustrate, but these two artists excelled in their artistic representations. 

"Daniela opted for watercolor, while Brayden utilized colored pencils, showcasing their unique styles and creativity. 

“They dedicated about three weeks on their art pieces, and their hard work paid off. It's a huge accomplishment to be awarded in a state-wide competition.”

Their work will be featured during the TREA Annual Conference June 22-25 at the Kalahari Resort in Round Rock.

"We are consistently blown away by the artistic talent within our rural schools, and this year's submissions truly impressed us," said Bill Tarleton, TREA executive director. "A huge congratulations to all the winners, and a heartfelt thank you to every student who shared their artwork with us. At TREA, we are committed to supporting students in rural communities, and we hope this contest encourages these young artists to continue exploring their passion for art."
