Mission Statement & Overview

Mission:  To ensure that students with educational disabilities understand their rights and abilities and are being challenged to meet expectations that prepare them for sustainable employment, further education and training, and independence.  

Vision:  That all students with disabilities obtain the skills and inner belief that they are valued and have the potential to leave a productive and purposeful life.

To support student achievement, we:

1.  Support child find responsibility in a manner consistent with the IDEA and Section 504

2. Support the inclusion of students with educational disabilities into the general education classroom.

3. Support high standards for all students with educational disabilities

4. Support high expectations for all students, regardless of disability.  

5. Support all students having access to the general education curriculum and received services in the least restrictive environment based on student needs.

6. Support services provided to students are an investment in their future.

7. Support students with disabilities have equal access to services and opportunities as the students without disabilities.

8. Support parents being a valuable and necessary part of the decision-making process.

The Special Education Information Center (SPEDTex) provides resources and interactive features for increasing family awareness of disabilities and special education processes, with the goal of improving partnerships between schools and families.

Child Find

Goliad ISD is ready, willing, and able to identify and serve all children with disabilities residing within its jurisdiction who are in need of special education and related services.

GISD is responsible for identifying, locating, and evaluating children from birth through 21, with known or suspected disabilities who reside in and/or attend school within the school district's boundaries to determine whether a need for special education and related services exists.  Child Find includes children who reside in group or nursing homes and/or who attend private or home-schools within the district's boundaries regardless of place of residence. 

Any one in the community who is concerned with the welfare of a child may participate in the Child Find process.  Child Find accepts referrals on children who may have a disability.  Parent involvement and agreement is obtained prior to any further action.  Information is confidential and privacy of the child and parents is protected.  Should an assessment be required, it is provided at no cost to the parent.
