Goliad defeated Nixon-Smiley 10-0 on Friday evening as three pitchers combined to throw a one hit shutout.
The Tigers secured the victory thanks to six runs in the third inning. Dillon Mellado and Angel Hernandez would lay down outstanding bunts for singles in the inning to advance runners.
This would pave the way for the offensive explosion in the third. Goliad’s big bats were led by Kolton Duval, Barrett Garcia, Ryder Reyes and Jacob Guerrero, all driving in runs in the inning.
Colby Rosenquest was on the mound for Goliad. The righthander lasted four innings, allowing one hit and zero runs while striking out eight and walking zero.
The Tigers collected seven hits.
Garcia and Rosenquest each collected multiple hits for the Tigers. Garcia went 3-for-4 at the plate to lead Goliad in hits.
The Tigers tore up the base paths, as two players stole at least two bases. Rosenquest led the way with two.
Goliad will play Friday night in Kingsville at A&M Kingsville baseball field. They will then host SGA for the second day of action on Saturday afternoon.
“Lets come out and pack the stands to cheer on the Tigers as they look to advance past the first round since 2019,” said coach Anthony Quintanilla.
