Tiger’s offensive barrage lead to a pounding Wednesday of the George West Longhorns.
Leighton Wunsch came to the ballpark and meant business, driving in four on three hits to lead the Goliad Varsity Tigers past the Longhorns 21-4. Wunsch drove in runs on a single in the third and a single in the fourth.
The Tigers fired up the offense in the first inning, when Barrett Garcia singled on a 0-2 count, scoring one run.
Goliad notched 10 runs in the fourth inning. Kolton Duval, Wunsch, Aramis Garza, Kamdyn Janak and Duval all contributed in the big inning with RBIs.
Phin Wallek earned the victory on the mound for the Tigers. Wallek lasted 4-2/3 innings, allowing five hits and four runs while striking out eight and walking one. Andrew Alonzo threw 1/3 of an inning in relief out of the bullpen.
Caleb Fruge took the loss for George West. The pitcher surrendered 14 runs on 15 hits over 3-2/3 innings, striking out three.
Goliad tallied 16 hits in the game. Garcia, Duval, Wunsch, Wallek and Janak all had multiple hits for the Tigers. Wunsch, Duval and Garcia each collected three hits to lead the offensive onslaught.
The Tigers move to 1-1 in district play and will host Aransas Pass this Friday.
