Goliad Varsity Tigers fell behind early and couldn't come back March 11 in a 12-7 loss to Santa Gertrudis Academy.
Despite the loss, Goliad did collect eight hits in the high-scoring affair. Unfortunately, Santa Gertrudis Academy had 11 hits on the way to victory.
Santa Gertrudis Academy Varsity Lions got on the board in the first inning and never looked back.
The Tigers tallied six runs in the fourth inning as Goliad put the pressure on, lead by singles by Leighton Wunsch, Kamdyn Janak and Colby Rosenquest and a walk by Ty Marek.
Hinojosa earned the victory on the mound for Santa Gertrudis Academy Lions. The pitcher lasted four innings, allowing eight hits and seven runs while striking out three and walking one.
Wunsch took the loss for the Tigers. The pitcher allowed six hits and nine runs over two and a third innings.
Wunsch went 2-for-2 at the plate to lead Goliad with hits in the game.
The Tigers would go 2-1 in there home tournament and will face off with Cuero Tonight night in Cuero and then Wednesday afternoon at Whataburger field.
Goliad Tigers Blows Out West Oso Bears
Seven runs in the second inning March 10 led Goliad past West Oso Bears 13-3.
Colby Rosenquest, Barrett Garcia, Andrew Alonzo and Jacob Guerrero all moved runners across the plate with RBIs in the inning.
West Oso Bears got things moving in the first inning. Going up by one run and would be the only time they would hold the lead all day.
In the bottom of the first inning, Goliad tied things up at one. Rosenquest lined out, scoring one run.
Goliad Tigers pulled away for good with seven runs in the second inning.
In the second, Rosenquest doubled on a 2-0 count, scoring one run, Garcia doubled on a 2-1 count, scoring two runs, Alonzo doubled on a 1-0 count, scoring two runs, and Guerrero singled on a 0-1 count, scoring one run.
Rosenquest earned the victory on the hill for Goliad.
The righthander allowed two hits and one run over four innings, striking out nine and walking zero. Kolton Duval threw one inning in relief out of the bullpen.
The Tigers collected 15 hits on the day.
Alonzo, Kamdyn Janak, Garcia, Phin Wallek and Ryder Reyes each collected multiple hits for Goliad Varsity Tigers. Janak and Alonzo each collected three hits to lead Goliad.
